The ARJ21-700 from China is finally ready to go after being built by the government-owned aircraft manufacturer, Comac, in order to compete with western airlines.
The first two jets are being deployed by Chengdu Airlines, capable of seating 78-90 passengers. Comac says it completed test flights in March and April racking up about 8,000 miles in the air. The ARJ21 project began in 2002 with a promised delivery year of 2007 but has run into technical problems that continued delays until 2014.
