The “Future is Here” festival, hosted by Smithsonian Magazine, recently took place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center and it didn’t take long before a jetpack demo stole the show.
A human pilot flew around the building for approximately 20 seconds, representing the company Jet PI’s first indoor flight featuring their futuristic jetpack in the United States.
According to Jet PI, currently their jetpack can only run for about 26 seconds before running out of juice, but their flying device is absolutely mesmerizing nonetheless.
Fueled by hydrogen peroxide and nitrogen gas which react through a silver catalyst to produce jets of compressed steam for the proper thrust, the human pilot is able to fly around swiftly while controlling steering and power with his hands.
While these jetpacks aren’t available to the public yet, the contraption is estimated to cost around $100,000 to $150,000…
