Whenever I clean my car, I think of how great it would be if it never got dirty in the first place. Not having to spend my precious time cleaning the car would allow me to spend that time with my kids and husband instead.
Washing the car can be quite a pain. But thanks to a breakthrough by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan, I might soon be able to say goodbye to the car wash for good. Nissan has unveiled a prototype of a self-cleaning paint, which when applied to cars repels dirt or water before it can take hold on the paintwork, thus eliminating the need to wash it.
The secret behind this self-cleaning car: Nissan is experimenting with a special super-hydrophobic and ‘oleophobic’ paint called Ultra-Ever Dry. This technology capitalizes on nano-paint coating. The paint has been specially engineered to be extremely water and oil resistant. It creates a sort of layer of air between the paint and the attacking water or oil. This layer of air means that filth never has a chance to ‘stick’ and instead rolls away harmlessly.
As per the company’s spokesman the paint has responded well to many weather conditions, including frost, rain, sleet and snow.
This innovative paint technology will not only save time and money but will also save a lot of energy and water as it takes a lot of both to wash the millions of cars on the road today.
