Audi’s new wireless charging technology is gaining more traction as it would essentially render electric vehicles’ plug-in charging obsolete. The technology utilizes a plate equipped with a coil and an inverter that emits an alternating magnetic field as a power source to the vehicle when parked over the plate.
The 3.3kW alternating current can be picked up by any vehicle with Audi Wireless Technology and boom! Easy and efficient charging.
A neat feature of the wireless charging is the fact that it automatically shuts off when it recognizes the car’s battery is full. Basically, park your car over the plate and the technology takes care of everything, including starting and stopping the charge.
The concept is not exactly new, as Audi’s Wireless Technology has been around for the past couple of years, but the announcement that the company is including the technology in its TT Offroad concept has people buzzing.
We will have to wait and see whether or not this technology is successful enough to eliminate plug-in charging completely.
