Withings’ Pulse O2 Adds Blood Oxygen Level Monitoring to Its Wearable Tech

By: | May 9th, 2014

The advancement of wearable technology continues to grow with many new exciting developments on the horizon, especially since Google announced Android Wear and Apple’s iWatch on the way. Despite Nike pulling the plug on its FuelBand wearable device, health and fitness tracking have been a hot commodity addressed by wearables, such as the new Smart Jacket by Glowfaster that gives you visual feedback while you train.

Withings is another company that’s making a name for itself in the wearable tech space. The company developed a fitness tracker wristband called Pulse, which was well received. Now, Withings has developed its follow-up with the Pulse O2.

Like its predecessor, the Pulse O2 monitors heart rate, movement and sleep but now also keeps tabs on blood oxygen levels. The addition of this feature is aimed at mountain climbers and people with breathing difficulties, namely asthma. By keeping an eye on your blood oxygen levels, you can monitor how your respiratory functions are holding up.

The wristband teams up with the accompanying Health Mate app where users can view and make sense of the data. The core device can also be detached from the wristband and worn elsewhere depending on your comforts.
