Just last week, IndustryTap reported about the U.S.’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirements that all new cars will have rearview cameras by 2018. Nissan didn’t waste any time following up with its unveiling of the “smart rearview mirror” camera this week.
The smart rearview mirror has all the benefits of a traditional rearview mirror but turns into a high-quality camera showing everything behind you at the flip of a switch!
Nissan says its product is “the world’s first LCD monitor that not only provides clear rearward visibility under various conditions, but also allows the driver the ability to switch between the LCD monitor and the traditional rearview mirror, depending on the driver’s preference.”
Nissan has been testing its smart rearview mirror in racecars and some of the company’s vehicles in Japan. The automaker is expecting to roll the smart rearview mirror out globally in 2016 or 2017.
