Giant Mirrored “Salad Bowl” is a competition-winning design of art depot for the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (MBVB) in Rotterdam. Dutch design firm MVRDV won the collection building competition after proposing this giant mirrored public art depot.
About the mirror building:
This bowl-shaped building with a surface area of 15,000 square meters has a mirrored exterior that reflects the beautiful green landscape of the surrounding park. The mirrored structure will also allow the public to see what is happening elsewhere.
The new art depot is an ambitious plan to not only provide safe storage but also to open the art depot and its collection to the public. The museum also has a rooftop sculpture garden.
The project allows the visitors to see the inner workings of a gallery, while private art owners will be able to rent out rooms to store their own collections in ideal museum conditions and show their collections.
Museum offers a unique experience with every visit
The museum showcases European art from the middle ages to the 21st century. All three floors of the art depot will be occupied by various art exhibitions. By moving storage racks, the exhibition can be changed daily so that each visit to the complex offers a unique experience.
