Low-Cost Water Pump Increases Farm Incomes by 500%

By: | December 11th, 2013

In order to help many Africans escape poverty, Nick Moon and Martin Fisher founded a nonprofit called KickStart, eventually leading them to design low-cost farm equipment. Recently, a simple human-powered pump, which can irrigate up to 2 acres a day, has made the type of impact they strived to attain for years.

The affordable pumps from KickStart, priced at $75 to $160 each, have been sold to the tune of 230,000 pumps and are responsible for increasing farm incomes by 500%. Through their inexpensive and simple farm equipment and machines, KickStart, on average, has helped move 740,000 people out of poverty.
