Dutch architecture firm NEXT has won an international competition to design a pedestrian bridge over Changsha’s Meixi Lake in the Hunan province. This 492 feet (150 meter) long and 79 feet (24 meter) high bridge has been designed to resemble a Chinese knot that comes from ancient decorative Chinese folk art.
This beautiful ribbon like structure will serve as a key public space for a new lake district within the Dragon King Harbor River development. The bridge connects a diversity of routings on different heights.
Construction on this loopy bridge across the Dragon King Harbor River will begin next year. It provides both a view on the Dragon King Harbor River as well as Meixi Lake, Changsha and its surrounding mountains.
While some of us may think of bridges as purely functional structures to get from one side of some impassable terrain to another, others believe that the imaginative power shouldn’t take a backseat while designing. This bridge is an example of cutting-edge architectural design being utilized to build a pedestrian bridge.
