Exposure to online pornography is changing sexual behavior and attitudes among young people. For example, lifelike sex dolls with limited speech recognition have already hit the markets in the US and Japan for erotic pleasure. These sexbots will have far-reaching consequences, including ruining intimate human relationships.
Professor Noel Sharkey, emeritus professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Sheffield University, warns that teens may soon have their first sexual encounters with these love machines.
Sharkey explained that he is not fairly liberal about sex, but he argued “it’s not a problem having sex with a machine, but what if it’s your first time, your first relationship?’
Truly autonomous robots constructed with the capacity of thinking and acting like human beings are still being developed by the robotics industry, and it may become a staple of the bedroom within next ten years.
Though there will be an age limit, once available, these love machines would inevitably fall into the hands of teenagers as well.
