Russian advertising Startup StartRocket is planning a new way of advertising by displaying ads in the night sky via satellites.
Using a collection of small cubesats satellites, the images and logos will hover in the sky like new constellations.
These cubesats will orbit at an altitude between 250 to 310 miles and will only be visible from the ground for about six minutes at a time, delivering 3-4 messages/logos from various brands per day. Not only this, it can display urgent information for the public during power breakdowns or catastrophic emergencies.
The company hasn’t disclosed how much a space advertisement might cost but StartRocket thinks that brands will pay huge sums for the ads because the “ego is brighter than the sun”
StartRocket plans to launch its Orbital Display by 2020, and start displaying ads in the night sky by 2021. Though the project is technically feasible, StartRocket could still face regulatory hurdles around the world. The primary regulatory challenge will be whether its satellites could interfere with aviation safety.
