A team of quantum computing experts from University of California Santa Barbara has been hired by Google with the main goal being to develop brand new quantum processors based on superconducting electronics.
Researchers from NASA and the Universities Space Research Association will join Google’s Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab (QuAIL) in their effort to design the new processors.
Led by physicist John Martinis, who previously said manufacturing a quantum computer was “a physics nightmare,” Google is hoping they can create a computer capable of making incredible calculations that would take traditional computers millions of years.
If successful, quantum computing will change the world as we know it.
