Elon Musk and his solar energy company, SolarCity, is in talks with the state of New York to build “one of the single largest solar panel production plants in the world.”
From there, more plants of equal or larger size will follow in subsequent years, making the United States the hub for the future of low-cost solar energy.
Musk says, “We expect to have to install 10 gigawatts [of solar paneling] a year,” the major reason for SolarCity to build new facilities in order to meet growing demand.
In essence, by building massive production facilities, SolarCity is hoping to drive the price of solar energy down while also working on potential breakthrough technologies.
